Learning loss is being framed as a “generational emergency,” leading to a collective wringing of hands, the organization of sudden emergency meetings and reactionary reallocation of funds. But what learning did students actually lose?

I love numbers. One of the things I most love about them is the interesting ways they are made and the ways they combine together to reveal fascinating and seemingly endless patterns.

When people ask me if there was a teacher that prompted my interest in maths, I always answer with a definitive “yes”!

One of the highlights of my life’s work is connecting with teachers and other educators – in lots of in person events but also in social media spaces. I have loved seeing the student work and photos that teachers share, and hearing about the ups and downs of one of the greatest professions – teaching. Being on social media has also allowed me to share resources and ideas that I hope are useful. Unfortunately with the good comes the bad – and sometimes the very bad.

This is my first ever blog post. I have written books and articles before but this is my first time as a blogger! So I thought I would start with a question I have often been asked – how did I get into this area of work?
